President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama walked to the East Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, for a ceremony to present the Medal of Honor posthumously to the sons of Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. Etchberger, in. Etchberger received the honor for his heroic actions in combat in Laos on March 11, 1968, after deliberately exposing himself to enemy fire in order to put his wounded comrades in rescue slings permitting them to be airlifted to safety.

Michelle O's Parents Didn't Think They Would Last...
First Lady Michelle Obama's brother, Oregon State basketball coach Craig Robinson is releasing a memoir this month.
The book, "A Game of Character," which has a foreword by their mother, Marian Robinson, is due out April 20.
Craig Robinson writes that he and his parents didn't think Barack Obama stood much of a chance with his sister when they met him.
He and his parents were out on their porch on a hot summer night in Chicago when the couple stopped by to say hello on their way to a movie.
"Well, he's tall," Marian Robinson said while Obama was out of earshot.
"Not a bad-looking guy, either," said her husband, Fraser.
But even though the suitor struck the Robinsons as a self-possessed man with a nice smile and firm handshake, they figured he wasn't a keeper. "Too bad," Marian said. "Yep," Fraser answered. "She'll eat him alive."

The Obama's Celebrate Black History with a Concert at the White House

Crediting civil rights-era protest songs and their spiritual predecessors for his election, President Barack Obama on Tuesday sat in the East Room of his White House and listened to an all-star lineup of performers pay tribute to the music that he said fueled freedom marches and civil disobedience.
"The civil rights movement was a movement sustained by music," Obama said as he welcomed his audience. He said activists from coast to coast were inspired by spirituals, felt their will sharpened by protest songs and base broadened by artists of hope. He said their work paved the way toward a more just America that allowed him to make history in 2008 with his election.
"Tonight, we celebrate the music of the movement," Obama said.

POTUS treated FLOTUS to a surprise birthday party at a tony Washington restaurant known for its commitment to organically grown food. Surprising the birthday girl Saturday night at Restaurant Nora in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood were her mother Marian Robinson and friends, including Attorney General Eric Holder, White House Adviser Valerie Jarrett and Jocelyn Frye, who is a domestic policy adviser to both the president and first lady.
